Cockroaches

Cockroaches are common in commercial premises, especially those involved in the production or handling of food. They are nocturnal creatures and spend the day hiding in cracks and crevices around areas such as sinks, drains, cookers or cupboards. Infestations may occur through introduction as egg cases or adults in laundry or raw materials, or by direct entry into buildings via drains and refuse chutes.

Cockroaches are potential carriers of diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid and poliomyelitis. Their diet is omnivorous and includes fermenting substances, hair, leather, parchment, wallpaper and food for human consumption.
