Wasp

Wasps are closely related to ants and, like them, are social insects with new nests constructed every year. The queens, which are larger than the workers, survive the winter in harbourages in buildings, under loose bark or even in old nests. Nests are located underground, in buildings or in trees or bushes.

Wasps are a particular problem at the end of summer and have a very strong attraction to sweet foods and drinks. They can cause a nuisance when they enter kitchens, bakeries and other places handling sweet, aromatic materials. Food stuffs can be contaminated and people disturbed or stung. Wasp stings can very rarely lead to fatality.
